Member Stories

In their own words.

Short reflections from members on starting, staying consistent, and what shows up when you keep showing up.

Maya

I came to exercise. I stayed for the people.

I joined in February because I wanted to move my body more. I expected a workout. What I didn't expect was Sunday coffee, group texts on hard days, and a small circle of people who actually notice when I'm missing.

Running turned out to be the easy part. The community is what keeps me lacing up.

Daniel

I'm not a runner. I'm someone who keeps showing up.

For years I told myself running wasn't for me — I was too slow, too out of shape, too late to start. Keep Running let me drop the label entirely.

I'm not chasing a pace. I'm just the person who shows up on Saturday morning. That identity has changed more than my mile time ever could.

The most rooted I've felt in Berkeley.

Berkeley can feel transient. People come for school or a job and leave. I'd been here almost a year and still felt like a guest in my own neighborhood.

Three months in, I have a route I love and people who notice when I miss a week. That's a kind of belonging I didn't think I could build this fast.

James

I missed three weeks. Nobody made me feel bad.

Work got intense and I disappeared for almost a month. I expected the awkward catch-up energy when I came back — the explanations, the guilt.

Instead someone handed me a coffee and asked how my week was going. That's it. I came back the next Sunday too.
